Statement

I am led to paint rural landscapes away from the city in places of solitude and peacefulness. I like to capture the varying moods of the atmosphere, weather, and times of the day. Lately I have discovered the special beauty of the atmosphereic affects of cloudy stormy days. My artistic expressions take on various ways to communicate my inner vision. I paint in two extremes: that of impressionism/representation, and expressionism meaning the use of unnatural color out in nature. I use many layers of thick paint and glazes to communicate my inner vision and scenes from nature. My expressionism work in color is influenced by Wolf Kahn and abstract artist, Brian Rutenberg. I use the camera, plein air painting, and my imagination to create my paintings.

Bio

In the ninth grade I became very interested in interior design, and later completed an interior design course at the Washington, DC school, National Art Academy. Several years later I took up watercolor and acrylic painting, and building on my competence as a young artist, painted every chance I could studying works of others and watercolor art books. Later I was able to attend classes and workshops. I took classes in watercolor painting at the Art League of Old Town Alexandria for about 5 years. Some years I was not able to paint at all. Soon after my retirement I took up painting very seriously. At that time I took classes in oil painting. I am now currently a student at the Vander Zee School of Painting since September 2008 painting in oils and acrylics.
