My artwork spans the spectrum of representative to abstract. My creative progression began with capturing images on black and white film and moved into creating complex images through the expression of color, shape, line and texture in my watercolor paintings, acrylic paintings and monotype prints.
A majority of my images include my favorite form of artistic expression - monotype print making. Some of my monotypes are detailed and precise and can require a great deal of planning in order to achieve desired effects. Many of my monotype prints are less analytical and very expressive.
I'm often impacted by the beauty of the continent upon which we live and intrigued by not only the surface appearance of the world around me but also by what lies beneath it, how it has evolved, how it has been scarred and shaped - much like that of a human life. This is the essence of my abstracted landscapes drawn from memories of my favorite places across the North American continent and the South Pacific. This is also the essence of my expressive figurative images which are a representation of inner emotion.
Moving forward, I plan to expand my skills in monotype printing, continue my focus on the human form by painting on wood surfaces, and expand my use of encaustic painting, or painting with wax. I am beginning to explore combining images of one kind of medium with that of another. I am driven to continue to challenge myself and improve upon the quality of my artwork - I've barely opened the door and I'm ready to jump through!
